The Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) has named Shirley E. “Bella” Borghi – presently serving as the HHCGA Executive Director & Vice Chairman | Federal Certified Navigator, Vice-Chair Georgia CEAL CCB – as Georgia’s recipient of the 2025 AIM Immunization Champion Award, recognizing her outstanding leadership and dedication to improving health outcomes across the state, by strategic and sustainable action to facilitate information and access to the full spectrum of immunization. (MMR, HPV, DTaP, RSV, pneumococcal, etc….)
Presented annually in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the AIM Immunization Champion Award honors individuals who go above and beyond to promote immunization in their communities. Bella was selected from a competitive pool of health professionals, community advocates, and immunization leaders for her exceptional contributions to vaccine education, outreach, and equity.
Bella’s work has been instrumental in increasing immunization coverage rates in Georgia through the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia (HHCGA), and generally among underserved populations. Her efforts have included organizing mobile vaccine clinics, leading culturally responsive outreach campaigns, and forging partnerships with local schools, faith-based organizations, and healthcare providers to ensure the availability of quality information on the full spectrum of vaccines, along with ensuring said vaccines are accessible to all.
“Bella exemplifies what it means to be a public health champion,” said AIM Executive Director Claire Hannan. “Her tireless advocacy and innovative strategies have made a lasting impact on the health and safety of Georgia’s communities”
Bella’s recognition comes as part of AIM’s celebration of National Immunization Awareness Month, which highlights the importance of vaccination in preventing serious and deadly diseases. She joins 45 other honorees from across the U.S. and its territories who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to immunization efforts
